Hi, I'm Bec Leigh and I'm a writing mentor and creative partner for lovely people in the business of doing good.

Are we trying to choose too early?

Are we trying to choose too early?

I find my achievement oriented mind is constantly jumping ahead, trying to reduce messy equations of unknowns (also known as being creative / self-employed / alive) to neat, clear solutions.

...one of the dynamics of human life is that we’re constantly trying to choose too early in the process, before things have come to fruition.

...human beings in general don’t let things ripen. They are constantly trying to go left or right. You find, actually, at the crucial moment there is no left or right. You almost always have to go between things. We’re not meant to choose. You’re actually meant to become the conversation of what you thought was a left or a right.
— David Whyte in Dumbo Feather magazine (Issue 41)

What a shift to consider that I'm not meant to choose, to imagine that if I let things ripen and engage with the experience, time can carry me through.

Has this has sparked any thoughts or questions you'd like to share? I'd love to hear from you.
